Concord, the largest city in
Contra Costa County, has experienced tremendous growth, making it
one of the Bay Area's leading commercial centers. Concord provides a
suburban atmosphere with an easy commute to other cities in the Bay
Area. Homes are mostly ranch style in well-defined subdivision
neighborhoods, with some 2-story homes and condominiums available.
Concord is loaded with activities; 19 parks, 12 playgrounds, golf
courses, community center, several superbly equipped fitness clubs
and the Blue Devils Marching Band (considered one of the best in the
nation). Concord is also home for the Concord Pavilion which has
provided first-class entertainment to San Francisco Bay residents
for many years.
A few year's ago, Concord placed among the top 12 cities nationwide
for "City Livability Awards." In 1991, Zero Population
Growth, rating for environmental health, named this city as one of
the best places to live.
Concord's 26 elementary schools, 8 intermediate schools and 7 high
schools are part of Mt. Diablo Unified School District, a highly
rated district whose schools at all levels rank among the state's
top 15 percent based on test scores. 1992 saw the opening of a state
university campus in Concord. This campus has made higher education
more accessible to local residents and gave Concord a financial
boost.

Parks & Recreation: Concord has its own Parks & Recreation
Department which oversees 19 parks totaling 686-acres provide
athletic fields, play structures, pools and picnic areas, tennis
courts, swimming pools and multi-use trails. The
Iron Horse Trail, maintained by the East Bay Regional Parks
District runs from Concord to San Ramon. Another favorite trail is
the Contra
Costa Canal Regional Trail which runs through Concord, Martinez,
Pleasant Hill and Walnut Creek.
