California
Nestled in a scenic
valley at the foot of Mount Diablo and only minutes from San
Francisco, Walnut Creek boasts an unsurpassed quality of life. An
extensive park and open space system, coupled with biking, jogging
and equestrian trails, as well as numerous swimming, tennis,
softball and general recreational facilities, help make Walnut Creek
especially attractive to active families.
Shopping
opportunities abound with everything from quaint little specialty
boutiques to top of the line department stores. Downtown Walnut
Creek provides a variety of shopping choices including the upscale
Broadway Plaza.
Restaurants offer
a range of cuisines from French bistros, to Japanese sushi bars,
American pizza parlors and even treats from Morocco, Vietnam,
Indonesia, East India or Mexico. International dishes may be enjoyed
in one of many open air sidewalk cafes. Clearly there is something
delightful for everyone.
As the crossroads
of the East Bay area, transportation alternatives are important to
Contra Costa County. Walnut Creek offers an array of efficient
freeways heading in all directions. In addition to the County
Connection regional bus system, the Bay Area Rapid Transit (B.A.R.T.)
whisks travelers comfortably in and out of San Francisco.
Education is
important in Walnut Creek. Student scores are consistently 90% or
above on the State Testing Assessment as area schools rank among the
finest in the state. In addition to the eight elementary, two
intermediate and three high schools, there are a variety of private
and parochial schools. Area colleges and universities include:
California State University Contra Costa County Campus, Contra Costa
Community College, Diablo Valley College, John F Kennedy University,
Los Medanos Community College, Golden Gate University and St. Mary's
College.

California's largest community for people 55 and older, is a special
gem. This country club style development is complete with golf,
horseback riding, swimming, tennis, billiards, crafts, social clubs,
etc.... Elegantly situated among the trees and hills, Rossmoor is an
attractive addition to the Walnut Creek area.
Walnut Creek is
especially fortunate to be home to a number of unique museums. In
addition to being a fascinating museum, The Lindsay Museum is
internationally recognized for its successful programs to aid
injured wild animals. The Shadelands Museum maintains rich Contra
Costa history while the Walnut Creek Model Railroad Society is a
come true for railroad buffs.
Cultural
Activities, a strong tradition here took a giant step forward with
the Completion of the 72,000 sq ft Regional Center for the Arts
located in the heart of downtown Walnut Creek. The $20 million
Center is owned and operated by the City and includes the Hofmann
Theater, an 800 at multipurpose theater, the 300 seat Dean Lesher
