Pleasant Hill, California

Pleasant Hill is a "limited service city", meaning that the city does not receive nor benefit from property taxes collected from residents by the County Tax Assessor, as do other cities in Contra Costa county. Virtually all city revenue comes from sales taxes. This means that large non-retail developments, like multi-story office buildings, have no significant benefit to the citizens of Pleasant Hill. Therefore, the city is made up primarily of residential and retail development.

Recreational opportunities abound in Pleasant Hill. Using the trail system constructed and maintained by the East Bay Regional Park District, you can walk the full length of Pleasant Hill and enjoy scenery from Walnut Creek to beyond Diablo Valley College. The trail system links most Contra Costa communities.

Nearby Mount Diablo State Park is one of the ecological treasures of the San Francisco Bay Area. Every season has its special qualities in the park -- beautiful wildflowers, an extensive trail system, fascinating wildlife and distinctive rock formations. Visitors can view the stars from its lofty heights, bike ride to its 3,849-foot summit or explore the more remote trails by horseback.

The Pleasant Hill Recreation and Park District is one of the finest recreation districts in the state. Pleasant Hill Park is a 16.5-acre facility that has a large swimming pool, children's play area, sand volley ball courts, sports fields, lighted surfaced court and softball field, and many picnic and barbecue spots. This park is frequently used for special events. Dinosaur Hill Park offers hikers breathtaking view of the Ygnacio Valley. This park is a favorite of scenic photographers.
