Discovery Bay can cause confusion to the first time resident. Discovery Bay is virtually surrounded by farmland and orchards. The glorious clouds of spring blossoms yield later to a sumptuous harvest of cherries, apricots, peaches, plums, nectarines and apples. Fresh strawberries are plentiful for a long season.  Lucky travelers sometimes get a glimpse of deer or a coyote while driving to Discovery Bay on Vasco Road. Discovery Bay waterways abound with ducks of all color combinations. The Blue herons fly from the fields to the North and West each evening at dusk to the islands on the lake.

Several organizations offer camaraderie and friendship with others who share one's leisure interests and community spirit. The Discovery Bay Yacht Club has a membership of 500 has resale memberships available. The Christmas and Opening Day Parades bring pleasure to the entire community as gaily decorated and lighted boats cruise throughout the bays. Special celebrations are held throughout the year, including costume parties, dining and dancing. Golfing and social memberships are both available.

The Discovery Bay Athletic Club features swimming in an Olympic-sized pool, tennis on one of the several courts, and a full gym for building and toning the muscles or just working out from the stress of the day. The Chamber of Commerce sponsors several annual events including a Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony.  The Lions' Club sponsors an annual Boat Show in the spring months, which also draws huge crowds. You will find that most folks don't wait for organized events to enjoy life at its fullest on the Delta. As you drive through the streets, you will see joggers, enjoying the view as they take their daily trek around Willow Lake.

Others may prefer wheels under them, such as bicycles or skateboards. Probably the most popular activities among those who live on the deep water bays are boating and water-skiing. Just remember that if all this activity tires you, just imagine relaxing on your deck and watching the ducks paddle by.
