Antioch,
California
Antioch, Gateway to the Delta, is
located on the banks of the San Joaquin River near the entrance to the
agriculturally rich San Joaquin Delta. It is located off of Highway 4 in
Contra Costa County with convenient access to the entire array of
Northern California recreation. Popular destinations include the
Monterey Peninsula, Napa Valley Wineries, Northern California coast,
Lake Tahoe, Sierra-Nevada ski slopes, Yosemite National Park, the Gold
Country, and the San Joaquin Delta.
The City of Antioch was incorporated
in 1872 and currently encompasses an area of approximately 28 square
miles. With a population nearing 90,000, Antioch has become the heart of
Eastern Contra Costa County, offering a variety of employment, shopping
and vast recreational activities. The availability of quality and
affordable housing is unsurpassed in the Bay Area. Balanced development
includes shopping centers, a golf course, several fine parks, including
the family-oriented Prewett Water Park and new schools. Antioch is one
of the last cities in Contra Costa County still building new schools.
The City features access to the
Delta through its Marina and boat ramp. An art gallery, unique shops,
restaurants and several festivals, including the Rivertown Jamboree and
the Delta Blues Festival, enhance the riverfront downtown area.
